Omaha Is Coming!

Actually, Omaha isn't going anywhere, but our first travel trip of the year is only a week away! We will be departing on Friday, February 13th from the Front Range facility by bus. Players should arrive at the facility by 6:30 a.m. on Friday morning. Buses will return after the completion of play on Monday, February 16th. Your coach and team rep will have additional information regarding the trip. Please be certain to bring lunch and snacks for the 10-hour trip to Omaha. Also, remember that jeans are never allowed when traveling with Front Range.

Getting Ready For Omaha
by Tim Engels
The first major tournament of the season is fast approaching. You'll be challenged to maintain a high level of competitive determination and play for three straight days. Here are some suggestions to help you meet this challenge.
How disciplined have you been about using your routines in competition? When you use them have you noticed how good routines help you to stay calm, focused and competitively determined? How consistently do you use your routines when you compete? Your feedback to your coaches is that using your routines help you when you remember to do them. You'll find that they help even more when you're competing three to four matches a day for three days in Omaha.
Make using your routines a goal in Omaha - using your routines (especially serve routines and serve-receive routines for the passers) and taking your time to do high quality routines:
-
See - clear mental rehearsal, see, feel, trust
-
Prepare - athletic posture, calming breath, feeling competitively determined, focus on the ball
-
Execute - Hit Mine Pass or Go Slow
-
Notice - after the point ends by taking a calming breath and mentally rehearsing any corrections.
Develop a plan with your coach's help on how you'll handle yourself in Omaha.
-
Limit the number of jobs you have and make sure you're clear about what your coach's expectations are for you.
-
Catch yourself being good.
-
Use your routines and trust yourself to make plays. All the work you've been doing at the Silo is going to pay off.
-
Manage the pressure you'll feel. What routine will you to use regularly, particularly one that uses calming breath and taking a moment to collect your thoughts when the pressure and excitement build?
When you're not playing, you will have some kind of record-keeping to do, cheering on your team, and staying prepared to play when called on. Keep it simple - even what's listed here is pretty complex when there's pressure, too. Have a great tournament!

And Now For Something Completely Different...
They're watching us and we're watching them. Hopefully, you have noticed that there are some people in our gym that aren't parents, players, or Front Range staff. Those people are college coaches who come to our gym to see our athletes for recruiting purposes. Front Range has a great reputation across the nation and you can tell by seeing who comes through our doors. Here is a partial list of schools that have visited us this season.
