Omaha Is Coming!

Actually, Omaha isn't going anywhere, but our first travel trip of the year is only a week away! We will be departing on Friday, February 13th from the Front Range facility by bus. Players should arrive at the facility by 6:30 a.m. on Friday morning. Buses will return after the completion of play on Monday, February 16th. Your coach and team rep will have additional information regarding the trip.

Please be certain to bring lunch and snacks for the 10-hour trip to Omaha. Also, remember that jeans are never allowed when traveling with Front Range.

In Memoriam
by Kay Rogness

The volleyball community in Colorado, especially the junior boys, is pretty small and pretty tight knit. There is a lot of camaraderie among most of the junior players; both the girls' teams and the boys' teams in club and schools know each other and generally support each other.

So it is with a great deal of sorrow that we, that community, have had to bury the second one of our own, within seven months time, whose life was cut far too short. Today it was Eddie Harrison; in July it was Parker Witt.

Most of us as coaches, administrators and parents are at least partly engaged in junior sports to offer the athletes a way to participate in something positive and growth producing. We hope that being an athlete gives these young people an outlet that will protect them from some of the really bad alternatives that are out there, and we hope to be part of keeping them safe from the dire consequences that can come from a bad decision.

When we are confronted by something like Eddie's death or Parker's death, we are all pulled up short and made to realize how many things in life are completely out of our control. Much as we would have liked to be part of creating a different outcome for both these young men, we couldn't. And, at least for me, it makes us question if we are doing all we can, if what we are doing is working and if what we strive to achieve is worthwhile. It also makes us realize how precious and short our time together really is.

On behalf of Front Range, we extend to all the family, friends and colleagues of these two young men our deepest regret for their loss, and we mourn for our own loss as well. We don't have the answers for why these things happen and we don't have any guarantees to offer that we can keep them from happening. But we would like all of you who were close to each of these young men to know that we feel the pain, too, and that we will do whatever we can to help ease it for you and to keep it from happening to anyone else.

College Watch!

They're watching us and we're watching them. Hopefully, you have noticed that there are some people in our gym that aren't parents, players, or Front Range staff. Those people are college coaches who come to our gym to see our athletes for recruiting purposes. Front Range has a great reputation across the nation and you can tell by seeing who comes through our doors. Here is a partial list of schools that have visited us this season.

University of Kansas
Purdue University
University of Denver
United States Military Academy at West Point
Colorado State University
University of Northern Colorado
University of Colorado
University of North Carolina - Greensboro

Keep an eye open for which programs come in to our gym in the future!

And Now For Something Completely Different...

June seems a long way off. Probably because it is. Nonetheless, there are reasons to be looking ahead to June. One reason is the banquet, more accurately, the banquet slide show. Certainly, one of the great parts of the evening is seeing the athletes in and out of competition during different parts of the season.

Be a part of that slide show by submitting pictures to us for inclusion in the show! Please burn the pictures onto a CD and bring them to Eduardo at Front Range. If you have a one or two photos, you may email them to eduardo@frvbc.com.
