New Parent Travel Meeting!

The qualifier season will be here before we know it and our first travel trip is a month away (yikes)! As we prepare to move into the most important (and most hectic) part of our season, we request that all parents of athletes new to Front Range plan to be at our New Parent Travel Meeting on Saturday, Jan 19th at 6:30 pm at Front Range. Many important aspects of travel and national tournaments will be discussed. Mark your calendar now!

Please print the travel form, fill it out and bring it to the meeting (or drop it off at the SILO before Sat.). This is to let us know if you want us buy plane fare for your daughter on the various trips. We need you to indicate (by circling “YES” or “NO”) for each trip what you want to do.

If you do not fill out this form, we will not purchase a ticket for your daughter and you will be responsible for seeing that she arrives at the team hotel by the time set by her coach and gets home herself. If you do commit, you will be billed for the ticket.

Alumnae News

Quite possibly the biggest buzz in college volleyball lately has been the recent decision of Rachel Holloway to retire from volleyball. Citing her desire to pursue some other priorities in her life, Holloway withdrew from Nebraska and elected to end her illustrious volleyball after her second year at the helm of Nebraska's powerful offense. See Nebraska's press release here and an article in the Lincoln Journal-Star's Husker Extra here.

From everyone in the Front Range family, we thank Rachel for all the wonderful memories. We have always enjoyed seeing you compete, whether it has been in a Front Range uniform, as a Cornhusker, or representing your country on the Youth and Junior National Teams. We are all lucky to have seen you play and even luckier to know you and your family. Good luck in your new pursuits!

A Language Lesson With Our Personal Soldier

Staff Sergeant Dawson strikes again!

Hello everybody,

Today is Friday the 11th of January 2008. I woke up at 0400 hours, thats 4:00 am. To my surprise, It was snowing. It actually stuck for awhile. How cool is that, talk about Global warming. I've seen it snow further up north but, not here in Balad. Our ISF section won the Goat award this week, Its kinda cool, Its the first time we've recieved it. It goes to a section or individual who does or say's something dumb. No, it wasn't me. anyway, I am going to make this Goat FAMOUS! I am going to take this goat everywhere I go and photograph him doing strange or funny thing. here's some Iraqi words and phrases that we use.
.
Ah salam a'lakum!
( ah-salam-a-lake-um) May god watch over you, or bless you.
Marhaba sladicki, shlonik?.
(mar-ha-baa) hi or hello
(sla-dicky) my friends.
(shh-low-nick) how are you?
Kay-fa- ou-sa-ra, how is your family?(FRBC).
Ana bakhar.
(Anna b'care.) i am fine.
ta'haleem( i am learning).
Ta-a-leem.
Masalama,
Ma-sa-lama. good-bye or good night.

In regards to competition from Jean-Marie, Somewhere oversea's.

The Welcome Mat

Royal Newbies

Please help us roll out the welcome mat and welcome this year's crop of new Front Range athletes. This week, we welcome our 14 Royal newcomers to the fold. Pictured above, from left to right, are: Melanie Washechek, Afton Montgomery, Allie Lundberg, Alexis Petit, Kelli Starbuck, Megan Turner, and Michaela Smith. We are excited to have you join our family!

And Now For Something Completely Different...

The President's Day Classic in Omaha is only 30 days away! That's 43,200 minutes, so no holding your breath! (Just hold those hotel rooms!) The average person's heart will beat about 3 million times between now and then but an athlete's heart will probably beat less than that because people in good physical condition tend to have lower heart rates.

February and March (Metro teams only) calendars are now available online. Be sure to check it out here.
