Front Range In The News
(The Open Up the Floodgates Edition)

Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be any more accolades for Front Range athletes, the Rocky Mountain News prints All-League selections for thirteen different leagues. Time to add to the list of post-season awards again. (The names listed below represent additions to those that appeared in previous editions of this newsletter.)

In the Centennial League, Lauren Van Orden, Courtney Karst, Carrie Baird, Amanda Arterburn, Berlin Wright, Erica Denney, Gabi Dewberry, and Tessa Trimble were all named to the First Team. Kelly Miller, Devon Rice, and Morgan Bohl all garnered Second Team honors. (Also of note here is that Van Orden was named Colorado's Gatorade Player of the Year with Karst acting as the runner-up.)

In the Continental League, Bri Smith, Ariel Turner, Kristina Rogers, Ann Dylla, and Kelsie Edwards were part of the First Team. Mikinzie Moydell, Kayla Collier-Vigil, Sarah Jaeckel, Holly Sabatka, Mandy Bauer, and Tanya Marvi were part of the Second Team.

Cali LeMay was named to the Front Range League's First Team.

In the Jefferson County League, Jennifer Youngblood and Erika Price were both named to the Second Team.

Evan Sanders was named to the Skyline First Team as well as being named the league's Player of the Year. Leahi Lolotai was named to the Second Team and Tawni Warren was an Honorable Mention.

In the Western Slope League, Chloe Nelson and Elissa Walter were named to the First Team while Kehau Vegas, Anna Padget-Shields, Hannah Ellison, and Whitney Van Voorst were Honorable Mentions. Nelson was named the league's Player of the Year.

New Math! 3 x 2 = FR + 0

Mekana BarnesRachel Holloway and Tracy Stalls
Mekana Barnes (l), Rachel Holloway (lower m), and Tracy Stalls (r) show why Front Range athletes are so popular with All-American voters.

Three Front Range alumnae were named AVCA All-Americans for the second year in a row! No other club in the country could make that claim last year and no club can say that this year either.

When the All-American teams were revealed last week, three Front Range athletes saw their names appear again. Rachel Holloway and Tracy Stalls were named Second Team All-Americans and Mekana Barnes was named Third Team All-American. This is the second such honor for both Holloway (Third Team in 2006) and Stalls (Second Team in 2006) and the first recognition for Barnes. To see an article with more about Mekana's selection, click here.

Barnes, Holloway, and Stalls were also named to AVCA All-Region teams recently. Holloway and Stalls were both named to the All-Central Region team for the second time while Barnes was named to the All-West Region team for the first time.

Adding to the Front Range All-American collection, Sarah Claborn, a junior at Kansas Wesleyan University was named to the NAIA's list of All-Americans. She earned the honor in part for leading her conference in points per game as well as in kills per game. To see Kansas Wesleyan's press release, click here.

In other alumnae news, two Front Range alumnae, Jen Harvey and Cassy Salyer, were mentioned by USA Volleyball as Americans playing overseas in an article that can be found here.

Annual Food Drive

This week is the last week that Front Range Volleyball Club is collecting non-perishable food items for donation to the Food Bank of the Rockies.

Food Drive dates: November 26th through the last day of practice before the holiday break. Here are a few types of canned and dry goods that make nice donations: Tuna, ham, beef stew, chili, baked beans, fruit, vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, soup and pasta. Non-glass containers are preferred.

Donations can be dropped off at Front Range in clearly marked bins.

The Welcome Mat

15 White Newbies15 White Newbie

Please help us roll out the welcome mat and welcome this year's crop of new Front Range athletes. This week, we welcome our 15 White newcomers and there are several. Pictured above, from left to right, are: Brogan Prior-Newburn (Highlands Ranch HS), Nicole Dalton (Sierra Middle School), Tawni Warren (Mountain Range), Anna Faul (Chaparral), Karlie Dalton (Chaparral), Citrece Fox-Birdwell (Grandview), and Taylor Castillo (Kiowa) . We are excited to have you join our family!

Extra Stuff!

Want to get a certain athlete you love some socks that she may actually like? How about shirts that never go out of fashion (at least in our gym)?. It's too late to order stuff for Christmas, but you can make amends to a Front Range athlete by ordering her extra practice gear, including kneepads and shoes. Pick up an order form at the facility or download a PDF version here. Bring your completed form and money to the facility to place your order.

And Now For Something Completely Different...

Christmas Break! (OK, false alarm. Not quite here yet.) But remember that Front Range's holiday break will begin on December 21st (22nd in the Mountain Division) and conclude on January 1st (2nd in the Mountain Division). Practices will begin on January 2nd in anticipation of Power #1 on Sunday, January 6th.

Also, the January calendar is now available online. Be sure to check it out here.
