Ankle Brace Recommendations

A reminder of something that was discussed in the meeting, ankle braces! Front Range requires all athletes to wear some kind of ankle brace, as usual, but, since individual preference determines which brace works for an athlete, we are no longer ordering one kind of brace for everyone to wear.  All players are responsible for purchasing their own ankle braces

We will have an order form at tonight's Parent Meeting and at the Uniform Fitting on Sat. for Active Ankle, Mizuno and Malleoloc braces that you can order at a reduced price.  Or, if you prefer another kind of brace, Jim and Djimmer Bosman have compiled a list of recommended ankle braces that can be ordered on line (Djimmer is a Physical Therapist we frequently refer athletes to. He has worked closely with Front Range coaches for about five years in treating many of our injured athletes.)

ASO Ankle Stabilizing Orthosis

Mueller Hg80 Rigid Ankle Brace

Swede-O products

DonJoy RocketSoc Ankle Brace

The key for a good ankle brace, according to Djimmer, is to get in a brace that fits the athlete; if it fits well, she or he is more likely to wear it snug/tight thereby letting the brace do its job. If the brace does not fit well, the player is likely to loosen it and render it ineffective.

And Now For Something Completely Different...

A women in sport fact in honor of the 35th anniversary of Title IX: Studies show that girls who play sports get better grades, are less likely to do drugs or drink, are more likely to matriculate in college, are more confident, have higher levels of self esteem, are less likely to have an unwanted pregnancy, lower their risk for breast and other cancers, and have lower risk for a whole host of negative health behaviors and diseases.
