Lindsey Licht Looms Large in our Latest Installment
The Nebraska freshman has been busy since we last read about her in our March 1st issue.
Lindsey Licht made her collegiate debut for Nebraska last month against Wichita State University, collecting five blocks and four kills in a three-set Cornhusker win. Licht was also a major factor in Nebraska's three-set victory over Colorado State five days later. Lindsey led all attackers with 12 kills on the night. Licht joins two other Front Range alumnae who currently start for the Cornhuskers, Tracy Stalls and Rachel Holloway. For complete a write-up on the Nebraska-Wichita State match, see this page. For more details on the Colorado State match, see this page.
Lest we leave out any Lindsey lore, let's look more locally. Licht is one of ten Colorado student-athletes who are being recognized by the Denver Athletic Club for their prep sports accomplishments. All the athletes (including 17 Silver's Ann Dylla's brother Mark) will be honored at DAC's Athlete of the Year banquet, to be held tomorrow night. For the complete list of athletes, as well as more about Lindsey and the DAC, please see the Denver Post article.
Alumni News
That's right, alumni. Even though the Front Range boys program is fairly new, it isn't the first time that Front Range has fielded boys teams. And even though there are far more well-known female Front Rangers, there are also a few famous male Front Range alums. In the same issue of Volleyball USA that featured Front Range alumna Tracy Stalls (see the newsletter about that article), there was also an article about USA Men's player Dave McKienzie. Most people assume that David was born and raised in Southern California because that's where he played high school and collegiate volleyball. But McKienzie got his start in the Front Range Volleyball program. His father played for the Men's National Team and David dabbled in volleyball before his family relocated to Huntington Beach. David has gone on to a distiguished volleyball career, playing for Long Beach State University and now, representing our country. McKienzie continues in his quest for a roster spot for next summer's Beijing olympic games. Check out his biography on the USA Volleyball website.

Senior Signing!
A member of Front Range 18 Granite, Garrett Winther, has committed to play Men’s Volleyball at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the 2007/2008 season. M.I.T. is ranked as the #1 Engineering school in the United States and offered admission last year to only 1,513 of the 11,373 that applied. Garrett carried a 4.25 GPA throughout his high school years at Holy Family and graduated 3rd in his class. Garrett was a member of the USA High Performance team in 2005 and played against the Chinese Youth National team. He also participated in the HP camp coached by Hugh McCutcheon. The ability to play volleyball in an elite academic environment is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Congratulations Garrett!
