Jim Miret
Jim is not only the Head Coach of Front Range, he is also the coach who has been in the Front
Range program the longest. He coaches 18 Black team. Jim's list of achievements is long and covers many areas of volleyball. In 2003, he was named Junior Coach of the Year for the RMR and USA Volleyball; it was his second award of this title from the USAV. In 2006, Jim coached Black to a championship at AAU National Championships – the first team in the region to win a Gold medal there; in 2005, they won the Bronze. In 2004 and 2005 his team won the regional championship - the 4th and 5th time out of 6 years they did so.
In 2002 Jim had a banner year, winning four Gold Medals on one season
- the 18 Open Gold at the Crossroads National Qualifier, the 18 Open Gold
at the Tampa Bay National Qualifier, the 18 Open gold at JOs and the Gold medal at the NORCECA tournament
as the Head Coach of the USA Youth National team. In addition,
Black went undefeated in region and national play from Crossroads
through JOs, including winning the RMR championship.
Although he began his coaching career in softball, Jim quickly gravitated
to volleyball. In 1984 he joined Front Range, becoming Head Coach
of the club in 1986. During his tenure as Head Coach, Jim has
coached several age groups in the club and achieved success at collegiate,
professional, international and club levels. In 2002 he became the
first coach in this region to lead a team to the Gold Medal in 18
Open and the second coach in the region to win it all at JOs (the
Front Range Amber team won the Gold at JOs in 2001 in 14 Club.)
In 2000 Jim was the Technical Assistant Coach for the Women's Olympic
Volleyball Team during their tour in China for the World League
Championships. He also participated in the Olympic Games in Sydney
in that capacity.
In 1999 and in 2003, USA Volleyball named him Outstanding Male Coach
for Juniors; in 1999 the United States Olympic Committee named him
Developmental Coach of the Year in Volleyball; and in 2003 the RMR
recognized his accomplishments by naming him the Junior Coach of
the Year.
For six years Jim served at a Head Coach for the USAV Youth &
Junior National teams program. In 2002 and 1998 Jim's Youth teams
won the International Zone Qualifying tournament (NORCECA); in 1999
the team finished sixth at the Youth World Championships; and in
2000 the team took second place at the NORCECA tournament. In 2001
Jim coached the team that competed at the Junior World Championships
in the Dominican Republic. In 1997 Jim coached the Colorado Thunder
women's professional volleyball team to a third place league finish.
Thirteen times one of Jim's Front Range teams have won RMR titles, including 2005. He has one Gold medal win at JOs
to his credit (2002) and one at AAUs (2006); 2 Bronze Medal finishes at AAU’s in 2007 and 2005, twice he has coached the Front Range 18s to
a Silver medal finish at the JOs (1990 & 1996); ten times
his Front Range teams have finished in the Top Ten at JOs. Nineteen Front
Range athletes Miret coached have been named USAV Junior All-Americans,
including three in 2002, with one of those being the MVP of JOs.
Jim was also a First Assistant at the University of Colorado and
at Regis University.
Jim continues this year as the club's Head Coach, Head Coach of
18 Black, co-coach of 17 Silver and Lead Coach for 17s and 18s.
